Thanksgiving Decorating Ideas and Themes

Thanksgiving is a time of year when most families gather to share time together and give thanks for their blessings. This may be the only time every year that nice china is used, so coordinating with good Thanksgiving decorating ideas is a great way to bring everything together.

Windows. Place large pillar candles in the windows and wrap fall leaves with glue around them to incorporate your autumn theme. Grow fall colored flowers that bloom during the autumn season in your window box such as mums or marigolds. Combine with homemade window pediments using winged wreaths made of bundled wheat, pheasant feathers and sunflowers.

Snack Display. While everyone is waiting for the feast to be completed, create a snacking display. Use a large wicker cornucopia and line with large green lettuce leaves. Fill the cornucopia with rows of fresh cut fruits and vegetables. Hollow out some small pumpkins and fill them with your favorite dips or even use them as serving bowls for soup.

Mail box. Using a fall theme, over fill an old tin bucket with fall foliage and place near the base of your mailbox. Create a garland using dried corn stalk leaves and wrap it around your mail box in a spiraling pattern.

Front Door. Adorn your front door with a harvest theme. Create a wreath to hang on the front door and garland to mount around the door frame using different types of berries. Put a pair of freestanding planters on either side of the door. Fill the planters and scatter around their base a combination of fruits and vegetables such as pumpkins, acorns, squash, berries, pomegranates and loose fall foliage.

Fireplace Mantel. Set up your autumn decorating display using fall accents like miniature haystacks, small pumpkins, cranberries, a variety of shelled nuts and cinnamon sticks. Illuminate your arrangement with fall scented candles with fragrances like pumpkin pie spice or cranberry spice.

Dinner Table. Use fabric with a fall theme in mind, display contrasting colors to make complementary look for table cloth, place mats and window swag. Try incorporating tall wheat bundles wrapped in ribbon and stored in large vases in the corner of the room or laid out on a buffet. Add a single leaf onto everyone's dinner plate goes a long way. Place candles using small pumpkins as the candle holder around the centerpiece of your table. Try combining elements of your decorations into your table centerpiece to help complete the tone for your theme.

Once everyone is done eating, your family and friends will appreciate how much effort you put into the Thanksgiving decorating.
